My Skin Care Routine

| Beauty

A question people ask me all the time is, “How does your skin look so fresh?

The answer is very simple: I put a lot of time and energy into making it look good!

Your DNA has a lot to do with how good your skin looks. But after I suffered from bad acne at the age of 13, my mother took me to see dermatologists and facialists in order to get rid of my acne. So from the age of 14, I’ve been seeing facialists regularly because my mother believed in the importance of skin care. I thank my mom for instilling those values in me at such a young age. Taking care of my skin is more important to me than actually wearing makeup.

Don’t think that your makeup is your savior. If your canvas isn’t perfect, then your makeup isn’t going to look good. It all starts with your skin. So here’s how I take good care of mine.

You are what you eat!

No matter what products you use, your skin isn’t going to be perfect if you eat junk. Don’t get me wrong; I like to indulge in Flamin’ Hot Cheetos every now and then (especially when I’m under a lot of stress). But, for the most part, I’ve realized that the more greens I eat, the better my skin looks. So start making those green juices at home. Start putting more greens on your plate. And drop the sugar and carbs. You’ll see such a change in your skin.

Believe it or not, I saw my skin clear up and shine bright like a diamond when I started eating a vegan diet.

I also recently quit drinking coffee. Coffee messes up your skin’s elasticity. And, honey, I’m in my mid-30’s, so I have no time for that. I can’t afford to mess around with my collagen; I need my skin to be tight and to glow. So goodbye, coffee. And hello, matcha.

My Daily Skin Care Routine

There are four steps I take every morning and night before I leave my bathroom:

1. I cleanse my face.
2. I tone my skin to balance it.
3. I moisturize to hydrate my skin.
4. I spray my face with rose water.

I switch to a different cleanser each time I use up a bottle of one. I like to surprise my skin with new products so my skin doesn’t get used to just one thing. Although I do tend to go back to certain reliable products like Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser.

In between, I’ll test out any products that my friends recommend. I’m open to it all.

One of my favorite toners that I use religiously is the Tonique Radiance Clarifying Exfoliating Toner by Lancome. I’ve been using this toner since I was really young. To be honest, I haven’t found another toner that does the job as well. Although I recently used Pixi’s Glow Tonic and really liked it.

You should moisturize your skin every day and night. In the morning, I like to use a moisturizer with an SPF to protect my skin from the sun and our desktop computers. At night, I moisturize with my favorite creams and, sometimes, I switch it up and use a vitamin E oil instead.

My favorite moisturizer is Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion, which you can find at any drugstore.

For the final step in my routine, I spray my face with Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater. I keep a small bottle in my purse and sometimes spray my face throughout the day. I also love using this product to set makeup or spray away perspiration. The rose petals moisturize your skin and even your dry hair. This product gives me a radiant glow, and it’s my obsession.

What do you guys think about my list? Have you used any of these products? Let me know in the comments below.
